In Dr. Jonathan Berlin's article, "Critical Communication: Improving Patient Safety", Dr. Berlin makes a very good case for improving the timeliness and effectiveness of results communication. This is critical to enable the ordering physicians to understand the patient’s condition and begin a treatment protocol.

To make this happen, radiologists, as Dr Berlin points out, should have the tools they need fully integrated and embedded in their reporting solution. The smart use of VR and macros and having an embedded, one click, access to a critical test results program sets the stage for this to happen. When selecting a reporting solution this is a major criteria to have: “Does the system you have give you one click access to patient history, critical results notification protocol and VR?” using third party systems provide parts of this, however, one should look for a complete integrated solution that embeds all this into a single solution that does not require moving from application to application to get everything that is needed.
